Model system for the transient behavior of double diffusive convection in two miscible layers

Abstract We investigate thermal convection in two horizontal layers of miscible fluids with an initial state which the are at rest and temperature has a linear continuous vertical distribution, but concentration takes different constant values each layer. Because layered is not stationary state, most theoretical methods available for immiscible applicable to case. Here we propose new model fluids, devised such way that average width transitional layer kept constant. Both stability stage asymptotic attractors nonlinear closely describe transition pattern original system, associated change
